Emily is one of the main characters of the story (she shares the spotlight with Daniel). A determined fighter (although not very good), she has an unbreakable spirit, even in light of her destructive relationship with Daniel. As Daniel's leadership ablities deteriorate throughout the story, Emily takes his place. By the time Daniel leaves the academy at the end of the story, Emily is a star student.

Emily can be shy and reluctant at times. Although she does fairly well in battle, she hates to get into personal disagreements. Highly intelligent and intuitive, she feels that she is the reason for Daniel's leaving the academy (although it turns out it is only because he has to marry Clara) and can tell how anyone feels towards her without them saying a word. She can be a bit eccentric at times--such as not laughing at something everyone else finds funny, but giggling over something serious. She is also easily confused and stumbles over words and phrases (which stems from a childhood speech impairment). She is easily irritated and can get depressed over trivial things, but she is generally friendly and easy to get along with, especially when Brandon is around.
